Designed during Principal Matthew David Bowles' time at prominent bay area architecture firm EHDD, Pacific Visions is the landmark expansion to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, conceived as a biomorphic glass form that reflects the dynamic relationship between sea, sky, and city. Anchored to the public plaza, the two-story structure houses an immersive theater, flexible exhibit galleries, and new spaces dedicated to exploring the health of the Pacific Ocean. Designed to highlight species too vast to keep in human care and too small to see with the naked eye, the project reframes conservation as an experiential narrative. Opening in 2019, Pacific Visions offers a vivid, multi-sensory journey unlike any other informal learning environment.
