Malibu Residence No. 1

Big Rock, Malibu

/

Completed

This project was sadly lost in the Palisades Fire. Perched high above Malibu’s Big Rock, the residence sat so elevated it often floated above the clouds, capturing dramatic, unobstructed ocean views. Its design centered on a 50-foot-wide, 15-foot-tall sliding glass wall that fully retracted to create a seamless indoor–outdoor connection to the infinity-edge pool and deck. A subtly curved ceiling concealed the structure and hid all door and window heads, giving the main living space an uninterrupted, horizon-focused openness. The design was a study in precision and pure California modernism.
