Set along a private, tree-lined road in the foothills of Healdsburg, this 3,800-square-foot residence is conceived as both a family home and an intimate tasting environment for its winemaker owners. Sculpted into the slope, the building is organized as two distinct volumes: a half-submerged, public-facing base - an earthy, cave-like level rendered in cement plaster and anchored directly into the hillside - and an upper private volume wrapped in reclaimed Monterey cypress, detailed with a custom board-and-batten cladding. A central triple-height circulation axis anchors the architecture, drawing the eye through the home toward the pool terrace, expansive decks, and the western horizon beyond. Wildfire-resistant assemblies, radiant heating, and passive cooling strategies reinforce a design ethos of restraint, authenticity, and material honesty, forging a quiet yet powerful connection to the surrounding vineyards and oak-studded landscape.
